Father’s Day inspiration, but great for any cook out!
Get it together! Before you start grilling make sure you have everything you need:
- Your food: Remember to choose your Dad’s favorite, not yours 😉
- Menu idea pictured:
- Chips & Salsa
- Steak, Potatoes, Asparagus & Garlic Bread
- Ice-cream and a Brownie for dessert of course!
- Menu idea pictured:
- Tools like: Tongs and a thermometer. If you must use a spatula, use it to flip not to press out all of the flavor!
- Drinks: My husband’s grill doesn’t start without a beer 🙂
- Serving plate: Nothing is worse than your food being cooked perfectly to it being burnt because you ran in the house to get a plate and tripped over the poor dog.
Cooking:
- Make sure your table is set and anything needed to be done inside is done or being taken care of by someone else-let the kid’s help.
- Pre-heat your grill to medium high.
- Give the grates a wipe down with grill wipes or a paper towel with oil (fold paper towel in 4, little oil and use tongs)-wipe it away from you.
- Sear one side of your protein, after a few moment lift up and turn just a few inches and sear again. This gives you picture post worthy grill marks. Flip.
- Cook to desired temperature. When using a thermometer lift up protein and put thermometer in side of protein. Do not put thermometer in from the top, it hits the grill and your results will not be good.
Toppings: All proteins benefit from a good topping and/or sauce. If you don’t have the time to make a sauce a few easy toppers;
- Steaks-french fried onions & blue cheese.
- Chicken-cheese & salsa.
- Seafood-a squeeze of lemon.
