With the state of the world we need to reach out to our family and friends and enjoy some comfort food when we can. A favorite memory of mine was my mom’s sloppy joes. It came out of a can, with love. A can of sloppy joes is easy and when served with love, perfect. When your ready for a great homemade version, try this.
Super Sloppy Joes
2 lbs Hamburger
1 green pepper, seeds removed and diced
1 onion, peeled and diced
4 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1 can tomato paste (8oz)
3 cups ketchup
1 Tbsp Chili Powder
1 Tbsp mustard
1 Tbsp Worcester sauce
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp Olive oil
2 tomatoes diced
- Sauté hamburger till brown. Drain grease and set hamburger aside.
- Sauté onions & peppers in olive oil for 5 min.
- Add tomato paste and hamburger mix in remaining ingredients and simmer 30 min.
Cooking tips:
- Serve on onion roll with a fruit salad.
- Get all of your ingredients and equipment out ahead of time, especially your pot holders.
- These make great sliders.
- A healthier twist use ground turkey instead of ground hamburger.
- Let the kids help, they love to mix it up.
- Hosting a party-it’s inexpensive and holds great in a slow-cooker.
Take care!
