Nachos, doesn’t that word just make you want them? All it takes is the word and I am off for a perfect plate of nachos.
Nachos were created in 1940 in Mexico by a man named Nacho. The original version is easy and still served all over, tortilla chips topped with melted cheese and jalapeños. Sharing plates of nachos with family and friends brings back all kinds of great memories!
Easy versions-start with:
Tortilla Chips-get crazy and use lime or blue chips…
Top with at least one of these;
- Cooked ground beef
- Cooked ground turkey
- Cooked pulled pork
- Seafood like cooked shrimp or raw tuna
- Black Beans or refried beans
Layer on one or two types of cheese;
- Nacho
- Cheddar
- Pepper Jack
- Cotija
After baking top with a few of these;
- Shredded Lettuce
- Diced Tomatoes
- Onions
- Olives
- Jalapeños
- Corn
Go for a couple of saucy toppings with a couple of these;
- Salsa
- Barbecue Sauce
- Sour Cream
- Pico de gallo
- Guacamole
Not as easy by oh so delicious!
Cinnamon Chips with Fruit Salsa
- Cut wonton wrappers into triangles and deep fry. As soon as they are done put on paper towel lined plate and top with a cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Fruit salsa; the sky is the limit with your fruit choices. I love making diced pineapple, papaya and honeydew. Top with drizzled honey or toasted coconut.
Italian Nachos
- Cut eggroll wrappers in triangles, deep fry and drain on a paper towel lined plate. Eggroll wrappers can often be found in your produce section and are essentially like a thin pasta dough…
- Layer mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and warmed alfredo sauce.
- After a quick bake to melt cheese, top with black olives and tomatoes.My sister Donna is an amazing cook and inspires me often. I told her about my Nacho article and she told me about her Italian Nachos. I can’t wait to try these!
Now that’s amore! Amore means love, hopefully you will love all these nacho ideas as much as I do!
Happy National Nacho Day!
