Grape Tomatoes
Italian Seasoning
- Slice tomatoes in half.
- Sprinkle with Italian Seasoning.
- Dehydrate until all liquid is gone and they are dried out. Every method and equipment will be different, our Nesco took about 12 hours.
- Store in freezer in a sealed bag.
Now what do we do with them?
- Enjoy as a snack, almost as good as candy!
- Toss in your favorite tomato sauce or basil pesto sauce.
- Use in the Tasty Tomatoes and Goat Cheese Bruschetta (link below).
Tips: I have heard that dehydrating in the oven isn’t as successful. With the Dehydrator it took almost 12 hours, but boy was it worth it!
Enjoy! As with most of my recipes there is a good story, check it out below.
-Angie
A friend of mine, Angela (great name I know!) was growing grape tomatoes and wanted to give us some. Yes, for sure, love grape tomatoes and they can be pricey at the grocery store. Sooooo….there was a catch, ha ha. She wanted to make dehydrated tomatoes.
The oven method didn’t work so well and we had a dehydrator should work right? My husband is the dehydrator extraordinaire, if you haven’t tried his jerky you should! – Mike’s Teriyaki Beef Jerky
So he figured he could whip these off on a weeknight. Wrong. Thinking a few hours would be good enough one batch turned into a 12 hour overnight event. Yes, I slept with one eye open with the dehydrator going overnight but all research said this would be fine. Who would of thought I would love dehydrated tomatoes for breakfast, they are so good!
So when he shared with Angela, she is a great Gardner, and promptly handed him another larger bag to try. Are they worth the 12 hour dehydrate time? Absolutely! Prep is super easy and the results are super tasty!
